Spain to spend 11 billion euros to fuel economy

Madrid - Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Thursday announced measures worth 11 billion euros (14 billion dollars) to reactivate the economy hit by the global crisis.

The money was come from a credit added to this year's budget. The government was due to approve the measures by decree on Friday.

The measures included the creation of a public investment fund on the local level to create 200,000 jobs as well as 800 million euros to shore up the car industry, which accounts for 26 per cent of Spain's exports.

Spain's economic growth has slowed from 3.8 per cent in 2007 to near zero. dpa
