A space-bound achievement, “Jugnu” – IIT Kanpur

A space-bound achievement, “Jugnu” – IIT KanpurA remarkable achievement struck when the students and faculty of IIT- Kanpur made the "Nano- satellite- Jugnu".

This landmark device which is indigenously crafted has been handed over to ISRO for its proposed launch. In context of a MoU signed in 2008 amidst IIT Kanpur and ISRO rights were granted to the engineering institution to craft a nano satellite.

A 3kg delight which stands one-foot long and 10 centimeter wide, will seek its release in space by a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle from Sriharikota and aims to take high resolution images. IIT which handed over the satellite to ISRO in presence of President Pratibha Patil, marking its golden jubilee, shall revolve around the space for approximately a year and will provide aid in fighting drought and other natural calamities.

President commended IIT-K for the achievement and expresses that IIT-K had made an impact on technical education within the country, while its students through their innovations, have played an important role in India, as well as around the world.
