Sony claims to increase its notebook sales by two fold FY 2010
India will be witnessing rise in the sales of consumer notebooks by next June as it is expected to reach 12.5 lakh units and Sony claims to increase its notebook sales by two fold FY 2010, touching Rs 1000 crore.
Sony India's Managing Director, Masaru Tamagawa, told reporters that in India Sony had achieved 20% of market share in the field of consumer notebooks which includes, laptops, netbooks, pocket PCs starting from May this year and making its sales almost doubled to 2.5 lakh units.
Sony has revealed its data showing its sales of about 1.2 lakh units of different models of its Vaio notebooks in FY 09 ending May, making sales figures at Rs 520 crore, told by Mr. Tamagawa.
In FY 09, Indian market has been nailed by reaching its sales at Rs 400 crore with 10 lakh units of different brands of consumer notebooks sold and it is expected that in FY 10 it will touch RS 5000 crore.
Earlier Sony had launched its Vaio models for premium segment but this year, it has planned to introduce its range of Vaio E series laptops among potential mass segments keeping it starting price at Rs 34,000, informed Tamagawa.
Tamagawa further told about some unique attributes which are loaded in E series models. They are designed while keeping in mind the youth and their ease of use. These models are available in different vivid colors, which make them more popular among the youth, they are affordable and light in weight, easy to carry and handle.
