Sonia, Digvijay send replies to EC notices

Congress president Sonia GandhiNew Delhi, Dec 11: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday sent her reply to the notice issued by the Election Commission (EC) over her ‘merchants of deaths' remark during an election rally in Gujarat.

The Congress party has not officially disclosed the content of the reply sent to the EC, but statements made by the party on Monday suggest that the ‘merchants of deaths’ was made to refer State administration and not a particular individual, Narendra Modi.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh has also sent his reply to the EC’s notice for his alleged ‘Hindu terrorism’ remark.

The three-member EC on Sunday had issued notices against Sonia and Digvijay Singh.

Both leaders were asked to submit their replies by Tuesday.

The Commission, which is currently looking into the reply filed by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for justifying the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, had received complaints from the BJP to take action against the Congress leaders.

Modi in his reply had questioned the Commission for not taking action against Congress president, and had said that Sonia's remark provoked him to utter words about Sheikh. (ANI)
