Smoke in cabin of Spirit airlines flight prompt evacuation of 99 passengers
Authorities have said that reports of smoke in the cabin of a Spirit airlines flight prompted the evacuation of 99 passengers in South Florida.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has reported that three people suffered minor injuries during the evacuation Sunday of the flight from Cartagena, Colombia, at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Broward County fire rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said that investigators found no smoke when they entered the cabin.
Crews used an inflatable chute to evacuate passengers, he further said. Jachles also said that one had a back injury, another an ankle injury, while others suffered mostly bruises.
He said, "It's not uncommon when people evacuate that you get twisted ankles and things. Remember, you're going down a slide."
Spirit spokeswoman Misty Pinson also said that two passengers were treated at Broward General Medical Center and released Sunday night.
She further said that passengers will receive travel vouchers for round-trip tickets. (With Inputs from Agencies)
