Singapore parking less expensive than many cities worldwide
Singapore - Parking in Singapore's prime area is not cheap but less expensive than in many other cities worldwide, ranking 52nd out of 138, a published study said on Monday.
Drivers in the city-state fork over an average of 27.16 Singapore dollars (18.83 US dollars) for eight hours a day compared to the top price of 92.63 Singapore dollars (63.88 US dollars) in the city of London, according to property consultant Colliers International.
Amsterdam emerged second with a tab of 90.03 Singapore dollars (62.08 US dollars), said the findings published in The Straits Times.
Prices in the city-state have increased 10 to 20 per cent over the past two years.
Employees in the central business district also enjoy more parking spaces, about 165 per 1,000 jobs compared to Hong Kong, with only 23.
The daily parking fees in London's West End amounted to 84.68 Singapore dollars (58.40 US dollars) for third place followed by Moscow and Vienna, both at 83.74 Singapore dollars (57.75 US dollars).
The cheapest cities to park a car in are Jakarta and New Delhi, at 2.57 Singapore dollars (1.77 US dollars) and 2.38 Singapore dollars (1.65 US dollars), the survey said. (dpa)
