Shaw's is not ready to compromise, says union

Shaw's is not ready to compromise, says unionEmployer Shaw's Supermarket Inc. did not budge in talks with a federal mediator on Monday, a spokesman for 300 striking food distribution workers in Boston said.

"Shaw's wasn't interested in bargaining. They were there to demand that we take this offer. There was no compromise. Nothing," spokesman Peter Derouen said.

The Boston Globe has reported that the strike of United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 791, began March 7. It escalated with a show of support from unions throughout New England on Friday after Shaw's said it would start hiring permanent replacement workers.

The contract offer amounts to a drop in wages, the union workers have said.

Shaw's could not be reached for comment, the Globe further reported. (With Inputs from Agencies)
