Seven Surprising Poisons People should Know

National Poison Prevention Week will be observed till Saturday. During this week, the Kentucky Regional Poison Control Center of Kosair Children's Hospital has unveiled about seven poisons of which people should be aware of.

Seven surprising poisons found by the center are-

1. Magnets and batteries.
2. Medications
3. Cleaning products
4. Malfunctioning furnaces and fireplaces
5. Caffeine
6. Tobacco and nicotine
7. Natural or homemade products

Webb affirmed that if a person has been exposed to a poison then immediately call the poison control center at (800) 222-1222. She has advised to save the number into mobile phone.

As per a data, parents call about 1,500 times a day in Poison Control centers in the country.

One of the common complaints is that a child has taken the wrong medicine and another one is high dosage. Children under the age of 4 majorly suffer from poisoning issue, unveiled a new report from Safe Kids Worldwide that has assessed the calls to Poison Control in 2013.

Kate Carr, spokesperson for Safe Kids Worldwide, said that teens also commit mistakes. “For our older teens who are managing their own medication, they are making mistakes. They do not understand what a double dose could mean. They are confusing pills”, affirmed Carr.

The report unveiled that chances of teenagers aged between 15 and 19 years to experience severe outcome is more than six times than the percent for children aged between one and four.

One of the most alarming revelations was that around 1,000 emergency department visits a year are for medicine overdose by teenagers were self-manage over the counter medicine.

Children under four years old faced medicine overdose maximum times due to ibuprofen, multivitamins, and diaper care and rash products.
