The 30-share-index BSE Sensex moved further up from its day highs and was ruling 154 points up than its last closure, in afternoon trade today.

At 1.17 p. m. Sensex stood at 16,927.22, up 0.92%, from its previous close at 16,772.56.

Meanwhile, the broad-based Nifty surged 51.25 points at 5,068.25 as compared to its previous close at 5,017.

The BSE midcap index gained 1.5% and the BSE small cap index was trading 1.38% higher.

The overall breadth of the stock market was positive as it saw 1,901 advancements as against 817 scrips declinations.

But, the majority of other Asian markets were trading on a passive note.

The benchmark Japanese index, Nikkei, closed 0.31% up at 10,253.14 points, where the South Korean Kospi gained 0.45% at 1,622.44 points.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed on a flat note at 20,886.91 after declining 0.09%, and the Chinese Shanghai composite index closed 0.78% down at 3,097 points. (With Input from Agencies)
