The 30-share index Sensex declined 227.94 points to close the week to settle below the 18K mark at 17,998.41.

The Sensex hit an intraday high of 18,248.36 and an intraday low of 17,944.16.

Nifty's day's high and low stood at 5495.20 and 5391.95 respectively.

In Asian bourses, the key benchmark indices in China, Singapore and Taiwan gained between 0.28% and 0.44%.

The stock indices in Indonesia, South Korea and Hong Kong registered losses between 0.01% and 1.28%.
