Senator Kerry meets Manmohan Singh, discusses Mumbai attacksNew Delhi, Dec 15 : Visiting US Senator John Kerry met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today with a message of solidarity from the incoming Obama administration in the wake of last month''s terror attacks in Mumbai.

Kerry, who is to be the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will also meet External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee later in the day to discuss Washington''s perception of Pakistan''s action against terrorist outfits.

Sources said Senator Kerry is carrying an important message from president-elect Barack Obama, which reveals the incoming administration''s plans for close cooperation between New Delhi and Washington on counter-terrorism and other regional issues.

Kerry''s visit to India follows trips by Republican Senator John McCain, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte.

The United States has put pressure on Pakistan to reign in those responsible and dismantle militant networks.

India has blamed the Pakistan-based outlawed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group for the attack on Mumbai and for earlier ones, including a raid by gunmen on the Indian Parliament in 2001.

Reacting to global pressure, Pakistan has detained several Islamist militant leaders India wants extradited and cracked down on LeT and a charity regarded as its front after sanctions by the United Nations this week. (ANI)
