Selectors, not captain, coach should decide team composition: Sarfaraz Nawaz
Karachi, Oct. 22 : Former Pakistan speedster Sarfaraz Nawaz has said that the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee should decide itself on the team combination rather than taking dictations from the captain and the coach of the national squad.
In an interview with The News, Nawaz said the selection committee should hear the captain and the coach, but the final decision regarding selection of the team should be taken by it only.
“I believe that it is good to consult the captain and coach, but at the end of the day it is the selectors who should decide the team,” he said.
“It would be unfortunate to allow the captain to dictate terms because in that case there will be no use having a selection committee,” he added.
Referring to Pakistan’s forthcoming tour of New Zealand, the outspoken former cricketer said the series would be a challenging one for the players, especially for captain Younis Khan, who is struggling with his form.
Nawaz said Khan would have to lead from the front to prove his worth in the team
“Younis’s own form has been pathetic in recent matches and he will have to show a lot of improvement to justify his place in the national team,” he said.
Nawaz pointed out that making the team gel together would be the prime task of the captain during the tough series.
“There are a few factions in the team which I believe is the result of a poor showing by the coach and the team manager,” he added.
Pakistan will visit New Zealand for three Tests in November, and will then fly to Australia for a full series in December. (ANI)
