IN Search of meaningful art

Sometimes art is so powerful, it brings people together even though they may have different interpretations of it. AFTER HRS on an exhibition by Khoj in the city

The passion started when they were pursuing their own art courses at different reputed institutes and were not aware where there lives were heading towards. What they knew, however, was a thing that they shared-an obsession for art. Today, they reside in different parts of the country, but does that stop them? Not at all! Rather what binds them is this obsession for art that brings them together at regular intervals.

We are talking about Khoj-a group of eight artists having varied expertise in the field of art. And they are here in the city to exhibit their works.

This is the 14th exhibition in a row ever since the group was formed in 1995. The exhibition which is being held at Jawahar Kala Kendra houses a variety not only in terms of mediums—charcoal, ink, oil pastel, pen to lino cut and wood cut and sculptures but also in terms of the artworks.

"There is no common or particular theme as a whole, but each artist has chosen his own,” says Mahesh Singh, a member of the group.

For Priyanka Choudhary, another member, painting and experimenting with tactile qualities of materials brings great joy. “The images in my works are extracted from simple daily objects that are quite easy to ignore, but once they are on paper, they speak volumes about their existence,” she says. She adds, “Sometimes a simple drawing in black is sufficient to speak a lot and at other times, a canvass filled with red, yellows and greens help me explode.”

Warning: Before you enter the gallery make sure you have your mind open as there is lot to see, but more to feel. The exhibition is on till Thursday.
