Schwarzenegger stumps for McCain in Ohio
While stumping for Republican presidential nominee John McCain in Ohio, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former bodybuilder, also had some fun at the expense of McCain's rival, Barack Obama, and Obama's slight frame.
During his 2006 re-election campaign, Schwarzenegger had styled himself as a post-partisan centrist eager to shed party labels and rise above partisan differences. This time around, he tossed aside his rhetoric about bringing Democrats and Republicans together.
Despite the fact that Obama is leading McCain in national polls, Schwarzenegger told the crowd that McCain could still pull out a win on November 4. He said: "You look all pumped up. You look ready to elect John McCain president of the United States." At the same time, Schwarzenegger also slammed the possibility of a Congress and presidential administration controlled by Democrats.
Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver, is a Democrat and has endorsed Obama, and he previously has said either candidate would be an improvement over President Bush - for whom he stumped in Ohio on the eve of the 2004 presidential election.
Talking about the election spending, and the McCain campaign being vastly overspent by the Obama campaign, the actor-turned politician proclaimed that he thinks there will be a "backlash against all of this lopsided spending."
In California, Schwarzenegger is considered to become the most prolific political fundraiser. He has used his Hollywood status to rake in at least $132 million since he launched his gubernatorial bid in 2003.
