Scanty snowfall in Uttarakhand
Buraskhanda, Uttarakhand, Feb 1: Farmers of Buraskhanda village in Uttarakhand are distressed this year, as the natural cycle seems to have been upset with no rain and insufficient snowfall.
Besides the life-giving water, the snowfall takes a toll on the pests that afflict crops and helps the manure-compost to set well. But this year with dry weather everything seems to be getting wrong.
Jagat Singh, a farmer said that the little snow that has fallen so far is not enough for a good harvest.
"There has hardly been any snowfall this year. Snowfall in the months of December and January is a must in this region. It is necessary for our crops. Due to the lack of snowfall, we could not plough our fields on time. This has hampered the cultivation of our crops," he added.
Farming is the primary occupation of majority of people in Uttarakhand, normally the state has more than enough water for cultivation.
But this year the situation is grim with farmers still hoping against hope. (ANI)
