Sania Storms Into The 2nd Round Of Australia Open
Sania Mirza breezed into the second round of the Australian Open tournament by getting the better of Marta Domachowhska. The Indian dominated throughout and an improved serve saw her easily overcome the challenge put forth by Marta.
The Hyderabadi girl served with consistency and hit attacking groundstrokes to outplay her opponent, ranked 61 in the world, 6-1, 6-4.
The 22 year old Sania was raced away with the first set in less than half an hour.
The Indian ace now has a tough task ahead of her as she is likely to take on Russian 10th seeded Nadia Petrova. In her first round, Petorva would be up against Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.
In the second round, from a comfortable 2-0, Sania found herself trailing 2-4 in no time. Sania quickly went on to win the next four games to seal her first win in the year's first Grand Slam event.
It may be here recalled that Sania had lost the one match which she played with Marta way back in 2003.
In this tournament, Sania is solo representative in the singles for India. Both Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi will play the men's doubles with their respective partners. Also in battle would be Rohan Bopanna, who has teamed up with Finnish Jarko Nieminen.
