Sania crashes out of mixed doubles
The campaign of Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has come to an end in the US Open after she lost her mixed doubles match in the second round on Sunday. Sania had already crashed out of women's singles and women's doubles events.
Sania and her partner Daniel Nestor of Canada went down to the unseeded pair of Carly Gullickson and Travis Parrott of USA in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows. The Indo-Canadian pair struggled to find their feet on the grass court as their serve was broken twice by their opponents.
The low winning percentage of 45% on the first serve in the first set by Sania-Daniel duo gave chance to their opponents to take lead in the match. Sania-Daniel duo played better in the second set but they failed to capitalize on the one breakpoint opportunity and lost the match.
Meanwhile, the top seeded, India's Yuki Bhambri stormed into the second round of the junior's boys singles event in the ITF Futures after defeating American Jordan Cox in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
