Samsung launches the world’s first solar-powered mobile phone – Solar Guru E1107Samsung rolled out its new low-cost solar-powered mobile phone – Solar Guru E1107 – in the Indian market on Wednesday. Samsung India claimed that Guru E1107 is the first solar-powered mobile phone in the world.

The battery of Samsung Guru E1107 is chargeable both by solar power and electricity. When the battery runs out of electric charge, the Guru E1107 can charge its battery using solar energy. The phone features a solar panel on the back that facilitates charging the battery in the sun.

Launched by honourable by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah, the Guru E1107 can offer 5-10 minutes of talk-time with one hour of solar charging. The solar panel of the phone consumes 40 hours to fully charge the phone; the fully charged phone offers 12-hour long talk time.
   
The Guru E1107 features 1.52-inch CSTN display (128 x 128 pixels), FM radio, MP3 ring tones, embedded games, torchlight, mobile tracker, and I MB memory. The phone supports dual band GSM connectivity (900/1800 MHz). The phone comes equipped with 800mAh battery. The Guru E1107 is made from recycled material, and it is free from harmful substances such as beryllium and phthalates

With Guru E1107, Samsung India is looking to target the rural areas and rural people with long power cuts or erratic power supply. The phone has all the features to attract rural people. The phone is priced at Rs 2,799. The Samsung Guru E1107 is available in Southeast and Southwest Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Samsung India is also planning to introduce about 20 more models by year-end. Samsung India is also gearing up to launch its solar powered touch screen phone Blue Earth, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona earlier this year.
