Rural Karnataka want a stable pro-farmer government
Bangalore, Apr 25 : As the election heat is surpassing the sizzling summer, Tungani, this tiny village just 40 km from Bangalore, is looking for issues to fight elections.
For the farmers of this village, loan wavier to support price to the crops and employment schemes are the issues to fight the heat on the elections.
The villagers, most of them are farmers and migrant labourers, this election is crucial and want to vote on the basis of issues, which surround them. They have taken an oath not to take liquor or other goodies from contestants, but to fight the elections on the basis of stability.
Talking to ANI, a farmer, Thippegowda, said that farmers loan wavier and support prices for their produce were the issues for him to vote in this election.
"I am a farmer. I want the loan waiver scheme to reach us and benefit us. We need support price for our crops," said Thippegowda.
For another farmer, Shivananjaiah, support for marketing of food crops and farmer friendly stable government was the need of the hour. He says that he doesn't want liquor or anything from the political parties, but schemes to reach the farmers including loan waived off by the government.
"We need scientific pricing for our produce. We need marketing of our products. We don't need liquor or any other thing from political parties. The need of the hour is a stable pro-farmer government. Loan wavier by the Union Government should reach the farmers here. The new government in the state must ensure this to us," said Shivananjaiah.
Senior Congress leader and robust politician D K Shivakumar, who is contesting from Kanakapura, said the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit and interaction across the cross section of the society has boosted the morale of the Congress and having a positive impact.
The village Tungani is different. The farmers here have their own agenda to counter the elections on issues. (ANI)
