RIM demonstrates near feature-complete version of BB10 OS
At the last week BlackBerry Jam Americas developer conference, Research In Motion (RIM) demonstrated a near feature-complete version of its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system (BB10 OS).
Going by the demonstrations by RIM at the conference, the BB 10 OS - which is likely to be shipped on the company's new BlackBerry smartphones early next year - boast a new look as well as some compelling new features.
One of the most attractive features of RIM's BB10 OS is the new "Flow" user interface - scheduled to come aboard the BB10 devices to be launched in 2013 - which marks an attractive dissimilarity as compared to the user interfaces of Apple's iOS and Google's Android OS,
Focused largely on multitasking, the new "Flow" user interface of BB10 will also pivot around single-inbox social media and messaging integration, as well as quick insight into personal information management with a feature called "Peek."
In addition, "Flow" will also introduce a user interface element - the Qt-based "Cascades" - which will be usable by Adobe AIR, native C++, HTML5/WebWorks and even Android 2. x; and has been written in the Open Source Qt development framework that Digia recently took over from Nokia.
With BB10 being refreshingly different from the leading platforms, what now remains to be seen is that whether app developers will show overwhelming desire to produce apps for the new RIM OS, and whether consumers and businesses will be enticed enough to buy the BB10 BlackBerry devices!
