Revival of the Aston Martin 1957 racer

Revival of the Aston Martin 1957 racerPhoenix, US  - An American restoration company has revived the rare Aston Martin DBR2 Le Mans race car combining the hallmarks of the classic with aerospace technology.

Ritz Automobile Corp has rebuilt the DBR2 around a carbon-fibre tub and aluminium honeycomb monocoque chassis with a weight of just 100 kilograms.

The company says it is following the principle of "assimilating the best elements of the seminally beautiful racers of the golden era with the material and manufacturing processes of current aerospace technology."

For the first time an insulating material developed by the US National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) has been used on a car. The engine bay and undercarriage have been insulated with aerogel - a hydrophobic water resistant compound.

Colours, textures and patterns for the interior can also be ordered to choice. The stainless steel dashboard can even be matched to a favourite timepiece.

The RA DBR2 is available with a 4.2-litre Jaguar engine with an output of 265 hp. But the company says customers can order from any choice of V8 and V12 engines.

Ritz Automobile has however not divulged a price or when the car can be ordered. (dpa)
