Lakhe Ke Uttar (Abohar) (Punjab), Dec. 29 : People living in the border village of Punjab are determined not to leave their homes inspite of the increasing tensions along the border.

Villagers at Lakhe Ke Uttar, a kilometre from India-Pakistan border, say nothing can make them leave their homes.

"No one wants to go. Be it women, children or others in the family. No one wants to leave this village. The border is just one kilometre away from here but we are not scared. We will not go even if the situation worsens," said Kundan Singh.

Villagers said they would back the Indian army if the tensions escalate into fighting.

"If the situation deteriorates, we shall shoulder the responsibility of the soldiers. We don''t want to run away from here. We have lived our entire lives here. My husband is the Village head. I will support him and the entire village in case of a war like situation," Sundara Bai, a villager.

Relations between the nuclear-armed neighbours have deteriorated after Mumbai terror attack that killed 179 people and inured over 300 including several tourists from different countries of the world.

India is putting diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to bring perpetrators of the Mumbai attack to justice or face action. (ANI)
