According to reports, scientists at Ohio University have developed a five-week old brain in a laboratory. Researchers reported that the fetal brain is similar to the size of a pencil eraser and is having all the functioning parts of a human brain together with a spinal cord and retina.

As per researchers, the brain could be used for looking into health issues such as Alzheimers and traumatic brain injuries; however, the research has not been reviewed.

This week, the OSU scientists presented their work in a conference in Florida; however, it has not been released officially as a result of an awaiting patent, so their claims could not be validated. It also seems that ethical issues are controversial for the reason that the researchers say that the brain is not grown to the extent that it develops consciousness.

According to Anand said, "It not only looks like the developing brain, its diverse cell types express nearly all genes like a brain. We've struggled for a long time trying to solve complex brain disease problems that cause tremendous pain and suffering". Anand added that such kind of work could prove good for human health for the reason that it provides better and more significant options for testing and developing therapeutics apart from rodents.

It has also been reported that further growth of the brain was not possible for the reason that the scientists are not able to develop the proper blood vessels in order to create a larger specimen.
