Researchers Create Picture to help you Determine Quality of Your Eyesight
A picture could help you determine the quality of your eyesight and figure out if you need eyeglasses or contacts. The picture has gone viral on the internet and shows you the blurry picture of Marilyn Monroe superimposed with a finely detailed image of Albert Einstein.
The picture creates an optical illusion and it was the work of the researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The picture, called Marilyn Einstein', has been actually developed as a test after combining a detailed image of Einstein, and a blurry photo of Monroe.
The picture combines a low spatial frequency (blurry) image with a high special frequency (clear) image. If you have good eyesight then the image will appear different to you than those with poor insight, said the researchers behind the creation of the picture.
Aude Oliva from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Philippe G. Schyns of the University of Glasgow worked together to develop the picture.
All you need is just a single glance at the picture to understand the spatial frequency of your eyes and how good you are at defining and contrasting details in a picture.
People with clear vision will see Marilyn Monroe from afar and Einstein from closer distance in contrast to people with vision problems who may not be able to see a picture of Einstein anywhere.
Tests were also conducted by researchers with their hybrid image and they found that only Monroe appeared to people who saw the image for a shorter length of time, specifically 30 milliseconds. People who saw the image for longer at 150 milliseconds were able to understand the details of Einstein's face. The researchers spent 10 years to create this hybrid image.
