Republicans in Congress Attack Obama’s Climate-Change Agenda

It is known that a global climate summit is scheduled to take place in Paris where several countries of the world will sign agreement to combat global warming and climate change. But republicans in Congress are trying to weaken Obama’s position ahead of the summit.

Republicans are majorly targeting on Obama’s administration rules to reduce emission of carbon from power plants. They are even working hard to block federal funds that are meant to support the global efforts meant to stop climate change.

The House has planned to vote next week on couple of measures that would cancel Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules to cut carbon emissions from power plants. Earlier in mid-November the Senate also voted to cancel the rules.

The EPA regulations reflect the commitments that President Obama will make during the Paris climate summit. Opposition to Obama’s climate-change efforts have been bringing together the Republicans at a time when they have split over many other high-profile issues like free trade and spending.

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) said the main effect of its may signal that Americans are not agreeing on President Obama’s efforts. Also, the legislative tools at Republicans’ disposal aren’t so powerful that they will stop the president from forging a deal at the United Nations conference on climate change that starts Monday.

The White House also mentioned that the power plant regulations are important to public health and climate change. It also mentioned that the promises President Obama will veto will measure whether they should reach the desk and Congress also does not have any right to override such vetoes.
