Reports of ‘super lice’ worry Parents
With reports of ‘super lice’, parents are becoming more concerned about their children. There have been reports that over-the-counter treatments are becoming less effective, leading to more worries regarding the situation.
Now, some people are looking for alternative treatments. According to scientists, ‘super lice’ have mutated therefore, in place of getting eliminated by lice shampoos, they come back repeatedly.
According to a new study, super lice have been detected in Maryland and in a number of other states.
According to Dawn Boyce of Lice Clinics of America, “The lice are coming back. The children are missing school. They’ve thrown out mattresses, carpeting. Some of the kids are telling us they don’t sleep, that their head itches so badly that they can’t sleep”.
As per the National Institutes of Health, between six and 12 million children in the US get infected with head lice each year. As per Dr. Michael Zollicoffer, a pediatrician with Sinai Hospital, if one gets more exposure, it will lead to more lice that could be super or the ones that are not.
As per Zollicoffer, more cases are expected, but parents should not worry much about it. He said that same product should be bought and used, and if it doesn’t work, then one needs to consult a doctor. He concluded that either there is a requirement of prescription medicine, or there is some issue with the product usage.
