The reports published in AppleInsider and Engadget say that Nvidia is gearing up to bring out a high-end video card for the Mac Pro.

According to reports, the company hasn’t revealed many details about the Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition yet, but it has come out that the components of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition will be developed by EVGA. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition will offer two dual-link DVI ports instead of a Mini DisplayPort. It will match the performance of its Windows variant featuring 240 processor cores and 1GB of GDDR3 memory with the standard configuration. The card is expected to be released in June, but the price information for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition is still unavailable.

The GeForce GTX 285 (PC version) is one of the heftiest GPUs from Nvidia. Sporting 240 processor cores, a 648MHz graphics clock and 1,476MHz processor clock, the GeForce GTX 285 (PC version) is capable of a texture fill rate of 51.8 billion per second. The GeForce GTX 285 (PC version) features 1GB of GDDR3 memory standard and two Dual-Link DVI connectors each capable of driving a 30-inch display like Apple's Cinema HD Display. The GeForce GTX 285 (PC version) Cards have been available since January, 2009. The cards are priced between US$330 and $400.

Additionally, the reports say that the Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia is also preparing to release a new version of its current GeForce GTX 295 card in May. The company is expected to roll out single-PCB version of its dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295 videocard.
