Re-orientation programme organized for doctors of ayurveda in Mumbai

Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy Re-orientation programme organized for doctors of ayurveda in Mumbai(AYUSH) has organized a re-orientation programme for doctors of ayurveda in Mumbai. This programme has been organized with an aim to equip is doctors of ayurveda with knowledge of newer technological practices in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics. This six-day programme was started on September 22. 

Twenty doctors from various parts of country are attending this programme. These doctors are from Jaipur, Jabalpur, Manipal and other areas from the interiors of Maharashtra- Latur, Pune, Osmanabad. This programme has been organized at various centers. Some of the centres are Palep Hospital, KJ Somaiya Hospital, St. George Hospital, and Podar Hospital.12 experts from the field of gynaecology and obstetrics have been chosen as faculty members of this programme.

HS Palep, a faculty member and founder of the Dr. Palep Medical Research Foundation said that these are teachers, professors and lecturers who will be given teaching materials in order to improve their teaching skills. They will also be given practical training in operation of ultra-sound and sonography equipment. 

He added that these are the doctors who usually man the rural set up, so these techniques should be known to them.

He said: “This is the first time we are conducting this re-orientation with modern medicine, in ayurveda. The Government has asked us to conduct a similar programme in January 2009.”

The programme contains practical knowledge as well as theoretical knowledge. A day in this programme starts with a clinical hands-on training in various aspects. Then faculties held classes in different hospitals. In hectic schedule from 8 30 am till 6 pm, these ayurvedic doctors are taught in-vitro fertilization technique along with other assisted reproductive techniques. 

The programme is comprehensively designed to update these doctors with total over view of obstetrics and other gynecological practices. Government authorities have announced that the doctors who all hold an MD in ayurveda can update their skills with this continued medical education programme.
