Renault-Nissan Plans to Launch Six Cars in Indian Market with Capex of Rs 5300 Crore
Renault-Nissan is advancing with its ambitious Rs 5,300 crore investment plan in India, aimed at launching six new products, including two electric vehicles. Having already invested 70-80% of the committed amount, the company is on schedule with its plans. Renault India’s CEO, Venkatram Mamillapalle, confirmed the progress while unveiling the "Night and Day Limited Edition" across its product line. Although the timeline for the new launches remains undisclosed, Renault continues to focus on its commitment to innovation, manufacturing upgrades, and bolstering sales, particularly in the South Indian market.
Renault-Nissan to Launch Six New Models in India
The Franco-Japanese alliance Renault-Nissan is gearing up to introduce six new models in India, including two electric vehicles. The overall project, valued at Rs 5,300 crore, remains on schedule. A substantial portion, approximately 70-80%, of the total committed investment has already been allocated.
Initial Investment Commitment in 2023
In February 2023, Renault-Nissan announced an investment of USD 600 million (around Rs 5,300 crore) to launch these six new models. The commitment also included the upgradation of its Chennai manufacturing plant, reinforcing its position in India’s automotive market.
Renault India’s Progress Update
Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and Managing Director of Renault India, affirmed that the investment plan is proceeding as expected. While specific timelines for the new launches remain undisclosed, Mamillapalle indicated that announcements will be made soon.
Limited Edition Variants Unveiled
Renault India recently introduced the "Night and Day Limited Edition" across its product range. These editions are limited to 1,600 units and feature enhancements such as dual-tone body colors, piano black accents, and upgraded technology. The limited editions span across models like the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, offering a premium experience at a slight price increase.
Pricing and Availability of Limited Edition Models
The limited-edition Triber costs Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom), approximately Rs 20,000 higher than the RXL manual variant. Similarly, the Kiger’s limited edition is priced at Rs 6,74,990, with an additional Rs 15,000 cost. Meanwhile, the Kwid's limited edition is available without any extra charge, priced at Rs 4,99,500 (ex-showroom).
Strong Market Presence in South India
Renault India has a robust presence in South India, with Tamil Nadu and Kerala being significant contributors to its sales volume. The initial response to the "Night and Day Limited Edition" has been especially strong in Kerala, where customer interest remains high.

Renault is committed to fulfilling its investment obligations with the Tamil Nadu government and is focusing on innovation and manufacturing upgrades. The company continues to enhance its facilities at Oragadam, which is located approximately 45 kilometers from Chennai.
