China says "serious differences" remain in Dalai Lama talks Beijing  - China on Monday said "serious differences" remained in its dialogue with the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader, the Dalai Lama, with little sign of progress in the most recent talks.

Talks earlier this month were "frank and sincere" but stalled on the long-standing differences between the two sides, Zhu Weiqu a vice-minister of the ruling Communist Party's United Front Work Department, told reporters.

China increases troop strength in Lhasa

Tibet MapLhasa (Tibet), Nov. 8 : China has increased its military presence in Tibetan capital Lhasa amid fears that "separatist" supporters of the Dalai Lama plan a repeat of the bloody March 2008 riots.

Military personnel with machine guns are conducting routine patrols around Lhasa''s historic Barkhor district. Snipers are also positioned on rooftops and stairwells.

During a four-day visit to the Buddhist kingdom, The Courier-Mail also witnessed monks being bundled into a police van close to Lhasa''s historic Jokhang temple.

Dalai Lama's envoys return to India after talks in China

Tibet China New Delhi  - Representatives of the Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, who returned to India on Thursday after a week's visit to China, said they had presented a memorandum to the Chinese leadership on "genuine autonomy."

The main purpose of the trip was to follow up discussions held in July, Kasur Lodi Gyari, who led the delegation, said in a statement.

He said the delegation had briefed Samdhong Rimpoche, prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Tibetan team briefs PM-in-exile about talks in China

Tibet MapNew Delhi, Nov. 6 : A Tibetan delegation that visted China for autonomy-related talks between October 30 and November 5, today briefed the Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in exile, Samdhong Rinpoche, about the outcome of the deliberations.

In a statement issued here, Special Envoy Kasur Lodi Gyari, said that the Eighth Round of Tibetan-Chinese discussions was a follow up on the discussions held during the seventh round in July this year.

Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leaderNew Delhi - Envoys of the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, were travelling to Beijing on Thursday for a new round of talks with Chinese officials, a senior Tibetan official said.

"The envoys Lodi Gyari and Kelsang Gyaltsen took a flight for Beijing early Thursday morning. They will be there (Beijing) for about a week," said Thubten Samphel, spokesman for the Tibetan government-in-exile in India.
