Phra Viharn National Park, ThailandBangkok - Provincial authorities on Tuesday reopened Phra Viharn National Park that has been closed for the past seven months because of a border spat with Cambodia over an ancient Hindu temple adjacent to the area.

"It's an arrangement at the local level," Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat said. "We're letting the local people try it to see how smoothly it goes."

Phra Vihran National Park in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket province, 350 kilometres north-east of Bangkok, has been closed to the public since July 14, 2008.

Myanmar needs 691 million dollars for post-cyclone recovery plan

Myanmar MapBangkok - Myanmar will need nearly 700 million dollars in international aid over the next three years for ongoing relief efforts in the Irrawaddy Delta, where Cyclone Nargis left 140,000 people dead or missing last year, the United Nations said Monday.

"This is a small requirement in proportion to the magnitude of the disaster," said Bishow Parajuli, United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Myanmar.

The amount of relief aid needed and projects designed for the victims of Cyclone Nargis was documented in the The Post-Nargis Response and Preparedness Plan
(PONREPP), released in Bangkok on Monday.

Thai police net Colombian burglary gangBangkok - Thai police arrested two Colombian nationals and have issued warrants for three more who allegedly formed a burglary gang that preyed on wealthy housing estates in and around Bangkok, media reports said Monday.

Police arrested Alvaro Gomez Pederos, 33, Adelmo Garcia Ardiia, 40, and Ardiia's Thai wife Walaiporn Khana, 25, as chief suspects in a string of burglaries, said The Nation newspaper.

They have also issued arrest warrants for Colombians Aerson Neo, Caolin Diyana and Thornet Anne.

Thai FDA certifies quality of Indian-made heart drug

Bangkok - Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has certified the quality of the Indian-made generic heart drug Clopidogrel which is 23 times cheaper than its patented alternative Plavix, media reports said Saturday.

"We confirm that every lot of Clopidogrel imported from India has been tested, with its quality and efficacy approved by the Department of Medical Science before being distributed to hospitals," FDA deputy secretary Veerawan Tangkaew said in an interview with The Nation newspaper.
