German Saint Pius clerics to pray for conversion of Jews Stuttgart  - Clerics of the ultra-conservative Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) are to continue their Good Friday practice of praying for the conversion of the Jews, a spokesman for the group said Thursday.

SSPX superior Father Franz Schmidberger said the intercession dated back to a Church tradition originating in the fourth century, and was not aimed at provoking or hurting the religious feelings of non-Catholics.

Mercedes-Benz sales were down 18 per cent in year-on-year terms to 98,500 cars, carmaker Daimler said in Stuttgart. But it noted that this had been a less steep drop than than the 28 per cent it suffered in February or the slump of nearly one third in January.

Stuttgart's Basturk injured yet again, out for four weeks Stuttgart - VfB Stuttgart midfielder Yildiray Basturk suffered the latest setback in an injury-ridden career in the form of a ruptured ankle ligament, his German Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday.

Stuttgart said on their website that the former Turkey international Basturk will be sidelined for up to four weeks after sustaining the injury during training on Tuesday.

Porsche reports big jump in profitsStuttgart  - German sports carmaker Porsche reported Tuesday that its first-half profits rose more than threefold, mainly as a result of gains in Volkswagen shares.

The company said net profit for the first six months of the financial year ending in July climbed to 5.62 billion euros (7.41 billion dollars) from 1.3 billion euros a year ago.

At the same time sales declined by 27 per cent to 34,000 vehicles, causing turnover to plunge 12.08 per cent to 3.04 billion euros, the company said.
