Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), one of the leading construction and civil engineering firm, has received a Letter of Intent from Lanco Infratech Ltd.

CCEA approves construction of greenfield airport in Sikkim

SikkimNew Delhi, Oct 16 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for the construction of a Greenfield Airport in Sikkim''s Pakyong town.

The new greenfield airport with a 1700 meter long runway and two parking bays will be operational for ATR 72 type of aircraft in fair weather condition.

The terminal building would be able to handle 100 passengers (50 arriving and 50 departing) at a time.

Sikkim is a land locked State with connectivity only by road. It is also one of the two States in the country, which has no civil airport. The nearest airport is at Bagdogra.

Skkim’s stray dogs getting humane treatment

sikkimGangtok, Oct. 8 : A group of animal lovers including veterinarians from Australia and the US have volunteered to take care of stray dogs under the SARAH (Sikkim Anti-Rabies and Animal Health).

SARAH is a State-wide programme and includes a team of generous and dedicated volunteer veterinarians and veterinary nurses from Australia and other countries.

The programme’s objective has been to extend its services to stray dogs and cover areas across the Sikkim for last five years now.

The group is presently in Sikkim.

Kangla fort in Imphal gets a facelift

Imphal, May 31 : Kangla fort, the famous heritage structure at Imphal, is getting a facelift in a bid to give fillip to tourism in the region.

It was on the demand of the people of Manipur, who regard the Kangla as the embodiment of their culture and heritage, that Assam Rifles vacated the fort in November
2004.

Soon after the Manipur Government began restoration of the fort by implementing in a phased manner the approved Concept Development Plan (CDP) of Kangla prepared by Professor Nalini Thakur of the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.

As per the recommendations of CDP, financial allocation worth over 100 million rupee has been set aside for its development.
