Dhadhi singing finding hard to carry on its legacyAmritsar, Dec. 15: There was a time when Dhadhis, the traditional Sikh musicians and singers, used to educate and inspire people by singing the sagas of Gurus'' heroic deeds and valour. It was done in the service of their community.

With the passage of time, not many individuals have been volunteering to become Dhadhis. This is steadily becoming a major concern for many members of the Sikh community who wish to see the Sikh culture gain popularity and respect among the new-age children.

Indi-pop singer Mika

Jalandhar, Dec. 12 :Indi-pop singer Mika was at his best when he performed at the Bagpiper Mauja hi Mauja concert in Jalandhar.

With Mika churning out his best numbers one after another, the crowd went mad. Children, teenagers along with not so young couples, all were seen dancing, shaking legs to the songs.

Demand of `once more' arose from the crowd at regular intervals and Mika obliged. Super hit song such as Mauja hi Mauja, Aye Ganpat, Sawan mein lag gayi aag, you name them and the ever energetic Mika had those ready.

But with all fun and entertainment to offer, Mika didn't forget to pay homage to people who lost their lives in the recent Mumbai attack.

Managing waste at mini Thermal Power Plant in Punjab

Muktsar, Punjab MapMuktsar (Punjab), Dec. 8 : An independent mini thermal power plant being run on agriculture waste in Mutksar District of southwest Punjab, has motivated the local authorities to promote such initiatives.

The agriculture waste, which was earlier destroyed by Punjab farmers, is now being utilized to generate a good income here at the mini-Thermal Power Plant.

Spread over 30 acres, this mini 6-megawatt thermal power plant generates 160,000 units of electricity everyday which is sold to Punjab State Electricity Board for further distribution.

Punjabi Durbar programme runs out of waterFerozepur (Punjab), Dec. 8 : The Punjabi Durbar programme of Radio Pakistan has run out of water, judging by its latest broadcasts.

It is a fact that Indian part of Punjab had little water, as most of the canal networks were in Pakistani Punjab. The Punjabi Durbar programme unfortunately has not taken the trouble to update its facts. In its latest programme, the Radio wants its listeners to believe that the situation is similar to what was prevailing five decades ago.

Innovative farmers transforming the meaning of being agriculturist in Punjab

Punjab MapLudhiana, Dec. 8 : A group of innovative farmers in Punjab is now looking for ways to improve efficiency, productivity and sustainability by adopting diversification.

Growing vegetables is now a viable alternative for Punjab farmers. Davinder Singh of Mushkabad village is today an example in Ludhiana district who grows quality vegetable in his 10-acre farmland and today supplies the produce to retail giants like Reliance and Field Fresh.

Seven years ago, Davinder and his friends set up Innovative Farmers'' Group and started marketing agro-produce on their own.

Mumbai attack: Villagers claim lone surviving gunman from Pak Punjab

Faridkot (Pakistan''s Punjab province), Dec. 7 : Residents of a village in Pakistan Punjab''s Okara District have reportedly told a British daily that Ajmal Amir Kasab, the surviving gunman involved in last week''s terrorist attacks on Mumbai, hails from there.

According to a report in The Observer, electoral lists for Faridkot show 478 registered voters, including the name of Kasab''s father Mohammed Amir.

The paper further goes on to say that a villager, who cannot be named for his own protection, said the village was an active recruiting ground for the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
