Islamabad - A major tribe in Pakistan has agreed to stop sheltering the foreign militants, hand over local Taliban leaders and accept the writ of the government in troubled Bajaur district, media reports said Tuesday.
The breakthrough came days after Pakistan's security forces announced they had defeated the militants in Bajaur after six months of fighting.
Lahore, Mar. 10 : The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Ijaz Butt has rebuffed demands of stepping down from the post in the wake of Lahore terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
"Pakistan cricket is facing a huge challenge and crisis. But I will stay on and try to improve things and put Pakistan cricket back on track," The Nation quoted Butt, as saying.
He said that the PCB would invite any foreign team to visit Pakistan only after getting firm assurance from the government on the security arrangements.
Karachi, Mar. 10: Cricket starved Pakistan is also likely to be snubbed by the sponsors after last week’s terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed fears that major sponsors might backtrack from their deals with the board in the wake of the Lahore terror attack.
“Our major sponsors in Pakistan, who support cricket, are bound to rethink their sponsorship deals if we can’t have international cricket in the country,” The News quoted PCB’s chief operating officer Saleem Altaf, as saying.
Lahore, Mar. 10: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed has claimed that former president Pervez Musharraf was ready to name Benazir Bhutto the prime minister for the third time.
According to a private TV channel, Rasheed said Benazir was in contact with Musharraf prior to the signing the Charter of Democracy.
"The long march does not remain in the lawyers' hand now, as the politicians have joined the show," the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.
Lahore, Mar. 10: President Asif Ali Zardari has said Pakistan will purchase gas from Iran even if India pulls out of the project, adding that he would discuss this possibility with the Iranian officials.
The Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying that Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project was in the best interest of Pakistan and Iran.
He said the government had already proposed to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that it would continue with the project even if India pulled out.
