Oram to miss second Test against Windies

Wellington, Dec. 16 : New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram has been ruled out of the second cricket Test against the West Indies starting Friday due to a calf strain.

Oram, who reported his latest injury two days before the drawn first Test started in Dunedin on Thursday, will focus on returning for the Twenty20 and one-day international legs of the West Indies'' visit.

The first Twenty20 international is in Auckland at Eden Park on Boxing Day.

The second is at Hamilton two days later before the five-match one-day series starts in Queenstown on New Year''s Eve.

Kyle Mills replaced Oram in Dunedin and is a possibility to play again after bowling impressively at University Oval.

New Zealand, Fiji in standoff over sanctions

Wellington  - New Zealand and Fiji refused to budge in the standoff that threatened to see the two countries expel each other's diplomats Tuesday.

New Zealand insisted it would not reverse a ban on visas for officials of the military, which seized power in a bloodless coup two years ago, and their families, until fresh democratic elections were held.

Prime Minister John Key told reporters he sent a message to Fiji military strongman Voreqe (Frank) Bainimarama confirming that the travel ban remained in force.

"It spells out our position, which is we have no intentions of lifting the ban on people travelling to New Zealand if they are part of the regime or associated with the regime," Key said.

Barbara Dreaver, the state-owned network's Pacific correspondent, was sent home after being arrested when she flew into Fiji's capital Suva on Monday night to cover the developing row between the two countries.

As she arrived, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key told reporters that he had sent a message to Fiji military strongman Voreqe (Frank) Bainimarama confirming a travel ban on Fijian administration officials and their families, imposed after Bainimarama seized power in a bloodless coup two years ago.

Furore over wine promotion by breast cancer charityWellington, Dec 15 : A breast cancer charity, which raises money to find a cure for the disease, has enraged support groups after it asked people to buy wine cases despite knowing the increased risk of alcohol on the cancer.

The Breast Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) has sent emails to supporters promoting an offer by Vintage Wines & Spirits, where they are offered 100 dollars off cases of Vavasour Rose while donating 40 dollars from every sale to the trust.

The trust is also sponsored by Moet and Chandon, which supplies alcohol for fundraising events.

Bond director Lee Tamahori working on Kiwi anti drink-driving ad

Die Another DayWellington, December 15 : Lee Tamahori, who directed the twentieth James Bond movie `Die Another Day' in 2002, is now working on a new anti drink-driving ad for the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA).

NZTA spokesperson Andy Knackstedt confirmed that that filmmaker is working on the commercial but did not reveal further details because its screening date would not be "before the middle of next year."

"The advert in question is a drink-driving advertisement - its message is don''t drink and drive," the NZPA quoted Knackstedt as telling Sunday News.
