Ipoh (Malaysia), Oct. 14 : The Deepavali bazaar and celebrations in Ipoh’s Little India area will start today. Cultural shows will commence on Thursday.

According to Perak Executive Councillor A. Sivanesan, 86 stalls have been set up for the celebrations and the Deepavali bazaar will go on until October 25.

Local artistes will be performing daily from 7.30pm to 11.30pm in the cultural nights until October 25, reports the New Strait Times.

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 13 : Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) national event coordinator Kannan Ramasamy has reportedly said that the organisation looking after the interests of the Indians in Malaysia will only consider becoming a direct member of Barisan Nasional “if its leaders are released from the Internal Security Act (ISA)”.

He said the movement also wanted to negotiate with the Malaysian Government to ensure the safe return of its chairman P. Waythamoorthy from London.

Ramasamy said while responding to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ah­­mad Badawi’s proposal to allow direct membership into the Barisan without the need to join any of the component parties.

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Monday called for a major review of the country's budget for next year, saying the government was in a "state of denial" of the seriousness of the collapsing global financial system.

In his maiden speech in Parliament, Anwar said that the projected national income and economic growth as stated in the budget, which was announced in August, way off the mark of today's economic realities.

Earlier, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi denied fears that the country was slipping into a recession, saying that the Malaysian banking system was sound and not facing a liquidity crunch like banks in other countries.

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 13 : Following the latest rescue of five young Indian tribal women from Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian, Singaporean and Indian authorities have intensified a joint probe into the flesh trade identifying the Indian women as “Spices of India”.

The women’s rescue had led to the arrest of several vice kingpins in the three countries.

A senior diplomat here described the Indian women as “exotic” and having “pure” qualities, who, she said, were in great demand from wealthy clients here.

Kuala Lumpur - A suspected "peeping Tom" slipped and fell to his death from the eight floor of a condominium on Friday in the northern state of Penang, a news report said Sunday.

The 20-year-old labourer was believed to be alone when he allegedly spied on a woman in a nearby high-rise through his binoculars from the balcony of his rented apartment and lost his balance, the Star daily said.

Police recovered a pair of binoculars at the scene and ruled out foul play as investigations revealed that neighbors had seen the man peeping before the incident.
