Politically-motivated clashes leave 3 dead, 12 injured in Bolivia La Paz  - Three people died and at least 12 were injured Thursday in clashes between peasants loyal to Bolivian President Evo Morales and supporters of the opposition governor in Pando province.

The long-standing conflict between the leftist president Morales and five eastern, opposition-controlled provinces over regional autonomy had escalated in previous days.

The incident happened in the town of Tres Barrancas, in the Amazonian jungle, some 1,200 kilometres north of La Paz, Bolivian media reported citing the authorities.

Bolivian election board rejects Morales' constitution referendumLa Paz - Left-wing nationalist President Evo Morales was rebuffed Monday by the central election commission, which rejected his application for a controversial constitutional referendum on December 7.

The panel said it would not organize the vote.

The election commission president Jose Luis Exeni ruled that the parliament had to approve such referendum, as well as a second referendum about provincial powers that Moralese wants.

Morales had issued a decree last week that ordered the referendums to be held.

At least 21 killed in Bolivian road accident La Paz  - At least 21 people died and 55 were injured when a truck on whose trailer they were travelling crashed on a dirt road in the Bolivian province of La Paz, traffic police said Tuesday.

The accident happened on Sunday morning when the truck - which was travelling to the city of La Paz - fell down a 200-metre ravine.

"We first heard about it late Monday, when the injured started to arrive to medical centres in La Paz and El Alto," police said.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

As Bolivia waits for poll verdict, Evo Morales claims victory

La Paz - The official results were still not in late Monday, but Bolivian President Evo Morales has already claimed victory in a referendum on whether he should retain power.

According to exit polls cited by television network ATB and other Bolivian media, Morales survived the recall referendum Sunday, by obtaining 56.7 per cent of the votes.

His mandate would have been revoked had he failed to get at least 46.3 per cent of the votes.

On Monday, the confident government asked the opposition to remain calm, understand the implications of the results and accept the offer for dialogue that Morales made late Sunday.

The Super Puma aircraft - provided for Morales' use by the air force of far-away, oil-rich Venezuela - crashed on Sunday on its way from Cochabamba to Cobija, about
1,200 kilometres north of the capital. The reasons for the accident had not been determined.

The helicopter - a Super Puma model belonging to the Venezuelan Air Force - crashed as it was going from Cochabamba a Cobija in the Amazonian province of Pando, about 1,232 kilometres north of La Paz. The accident took place in Colomi, in the province of Cochabamba.
