Seven dead in truck accident in western NepalKathmandu  - At least seven people were killed and two others injured in a truck accident early Monday in western Nepal, police said.

The truck fell 50 metres off a highway in Palpa district, about 230 kilometres west of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, and plunged into the fast-flowing Tinau River, the police said.

The truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the narrow, winding mountain highway.

Police said seven people died instantly while two others were rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Nepalese TV stations cut broadcasts as power outages increase

NepalKathmandu- Private Nepalese television stations Thursday announced several hours of cuts to regular broadcasts, citing growing power outages.

Television Broadcasters' Nepal, an umbrella body of five private stations, said they would no longer be able to keep up round-the- clock broadcasts due to power outages.

The government-owned Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) earlier Thursday announced 12 hours of power cuts across the country, saying it was unable to meet demand.

Prachanda reinstates Indian priests

Pushpa Kamal Dahal Kathmandu, Jan 7 : Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda has temporarily reinstated a group of sacked Indian priests to offer worship at the Pashupati Temple.

Prachanda late on Wednesday told the National Assembly that he had ordered officials "to manage normal worship at the temple by the same Indian priests for the time being."

Daily worship and religious functions at the centuries-old temple have been disrupted since last week amidst some priests protesting over the replacement of Indian priests with Nepali national.

Protests erupt over Maoist appointments at Nepal templeKathmandu - Hundreds of protestors burnt tyres and blocked streets in Kathmandu Tuesday as protests escalated over the Maoist-led government's appointment of top clergy at the country's largest Hindu temple.

The protests followed demonstrations by junior priests at the Pashupatinath temple objecting to the appointment of new high priests by the Young Communist League.

Hundreds of protestors, including junior priests known as Bhandaris, imposed a traffic blockade and burnt tyres.

Maoist displeased with UML leaders

NepalKathmandu, Jan 5 : Maoists leaders have come down hard against their coalition partner Unified Marxist Leninist (UML).

During the Maoists central secretariat meeting on Sunday, Maoist leaders said that the UML was acting like an opposition party.

Senior Maoist leader CP Gajurel said, "Some UML leaders are busy criticizing the government as if they are in the opposition."

According to him, the party has decided to discuss the matter with the UML leaders in the next high-level political committee meeting.
