Senegal's president calls for support of Guinea juntaParis/Dakar/Conakry, Guinea  - Senegal's President Abdoulaye Wade Friday called for the international community to support the military junta that has seized power in the west African nation of Guinea.

Wade, who was in Paris, warned against intervention by foreign powers in the internal affairs of Guinea, Senegal's neighbour to the south, Senegalese media reported.

Wade, who spoke to reporters at the residence of the Senegalese ambassador in Paris, asked the European Union, France and the World Bank to support the junta.

Tens of thousands attend funeral of Guinea's Conte Conakry  - Tens of thousands of Guineans joined regional leaders Friday at the funeral of President Lansana Conte, whose death earlier this week triggered a coup.

The presidents of Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast and Liberia were amongst the crowds who packed into the national stadium in the capital Conakry.

The second-in-command of the military coup also attended the funeral and paid tribute to the man who ruled the West African for 24 years after seizing power in a bloodless coup.

Guinea coup leaders give deadline to politicians Conakry, Guinea  - The leader of a military coup in Guinea Thursday gave government ministers a deadline of 24 hours to hand themselves in to an army barracks or face being hunted down.

"If tomorrow arrives without them presenting themselves, we will organize a search across the entire country," the BBC reported Captain Moussa Dadis Camara as saying during a radio address.

Camara declared himself president on Wednesday evening after parading past cheering crowds in the streets of the capital Conakry.

Guinea military launches coup after president's deathConakry, Guinea - A section of Guinea's military Tuesday launched an apparent coup just hours after the death of the West African nation's long-term President Lansana Conte was announced.

A statement read out on the radio said that both the government and the constitution were suspended.

Captain Moussa Dadis Camara said that a council of civilian and military leaders would be set up to replace the government as state institutions were "incapable of resolving the crises which have been confronting the country," the BBC reported.
