New Delhi, Jan 18: Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat will hold talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi here today to discuss the political crisis in the State.
National Congress Party (NCP) General Secretary Praful Patel was in Panaji to hold talks with three of his MLAs and an independent Viswajeet Rane to ask them not to press for withdrawal of support to the seven-month-old government, which is on the verge of collapse.
Patel later said, "the government will survive. We will find some solution."
Panaji, Jan 3: Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat is expected to meet Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath here today on the issue of Goa Government's decision to scrap all Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the State.
Union Commerce Secretary Gopal Pillai, on Wednesday, said that the State Governments have no power to scrap notified SEZs.
The Goa Government had decided to scrap all 15 SEZs in the State on December 31, 2007 following widespread political protests, including by the Congress party workers.
Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, on Friday last week, has launched the "Goa Broadband Network" (GBBN) amidst trust and worry about the project’s future.
Formerly called as "Goa Net", the Broadband Network project aspires at setting up a state that is “enabled by IT to be efficient and accountable with a global thinking approach".
GBBN will offer privileges to citizens, which comprise the information about education, healthcare, farming, well-being, amusement, IP telephony, and video conferencing.
It will also provide e-governance as well as B2C (business-to-citizen) services.
