Etah (Uttar Pradesh), Apr. 16 : Bharatiya Janata Party leader and the party''s candidate for the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency, Varun Gandhi, was released from the Etah District Jail shortly after 6.15 p. m. on Thursday, a day after giving an undertaking to the Supreme Court and the Etah District Magistrate that he would not make any more communally sensitive or hatred-filled speeches during the interim bail period of two weeks.
Etah, Apr 16 : Former Union Minister and mother of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, Maneka Gandhi, has arrived at the Etah District Jail to receive him.
Varun Gandhi is expected be released shortly and is likely to conduct a roadshow from Etah to Bareilly after his release.
Earlier, the Supreme Court ordered the release of Varun Gandhi on parole for a period of two weeks after it received an undertaking from him that he would not indulge in communally sensitive and hate speeches.
Etah (Uttar Pradesh), Apr. 15 : A lawyer representing Pilibhit and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate Varun Gandhi on Tuesday revealed that his client has given an undertaking to the Supreme Court that he will not make any more hate speeches, raising prospects of his early release on bail from the Etah District Jail where he has been lodged under the National Security (NSA) Act.
Etah, Apr 2 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday alleged that Varun Gandhi had been harassed and tortured in the jail.
"Varun Gandhi was kept in a small cell, where he could not see anyone. Inhuman treatment was meted out to him. He was harassed and tortured," Naidu told reporters after meeting Varun in Etah District jail here.
The BJP leader claimed that Varun was implicated under a conspiracy of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress.
Etah (UP), Apr 1 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, who was lodged in the district jail in Pilibhit in connection with a case pertaining to the alleged anti-Muslim remarks, was shifted to the Etah Jail late on Tuesday night for security reasons.
According to official sources, Varun was moved to avoid a law and order problem in Pilibhit.
On Tuesday, a petition was filed on behalf of Varun in the Allahabad High Court, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).
Etah (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 28 : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has declared sitting Etah MP Kunwar Devendra Singh as its candidate from the Etah parliamentary constituency.
Singh had left the Samajwadi Party on Friday and joined the BSP.
The BSP has gained six MPs from Samajwadi Party so far, the other ones being Shahid Siddiqui, who was elected to Rajya Sabha as Samajwadi Party candidate, Afzal Ansari from Ghazipur, Dhaniram Verma, Gauri Shanker, Kriti Vardhan Singh and Saif-ur-Rehman Barq.
Samajwadi Party sources claim that majority of the MPs left the party in recent times after being denied ticket for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
