Cotabato City, Philippines - Four Muslim rebels, one soldier and one pro-government militiaman were killed in clashes in the southern Philippines, a regional army chief said Wednesday.

Major General Raymundo Ferrer said four Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) guerrillas and one pro-government militiaman were killed Tuesday in fierce fighting in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao province, 960 kilometres south of Manila.

Ferrer said a soldier was also killed Tuesday in a clash with a separate group of MILF rebels in nearby Mamasapano town, also in Maguindanao.

Cotabato City, Philippines - One soldier was killed Thursday in a clash with Muslim separatist rebels in the southern Philippines, a regional military spokesman said.

The fighting erupted at dawn when Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels attacked a group of soldiers who were on their way to an army outpost in Aleosan town in North Cotabato province, 960 kilometres south of Manila, Major Randolph Cabangbang said.

The fatality was an army sergeant who died while being treated for gunshot wounds in a nearby hospital, Cabangbang said.

Cotabato City, Philippines - Thirty-one Muslim rebels and one soldier were killed in three days of fighting in the southern Philippines, military officials said Friday.

Nine Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels and one soldier were killed in clashes late Thursday in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao province, 960 kilometres south of Manila, said Major Peter Edwin Navarro, an army brigade spokesman.

Cotabato City, Philippines - At least 19 Muslim rebels were killed in two days of clashes with government troops in the southern Philippines, an army brigade spokesman said Thursday.

The clashes with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) guerillas occurred Tuesday and Wednesday in the towns of Datu Saudi Ampatuan and Guindulungan in Maguindanao province, 960 kilometres south of Manila, Major Peter Edwin Peter Navarro said.

"The rebel fatalities were confirmed by civilians and military radio intercepts," he said

The fighting erupted Tuesday when government troops caught up with fleeing Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in Guindulungan town in Maguindanao province, 960 kilometres south of Manila, Major Armand Rico said.

Two soldiers were wounded in the fighting and were being treated at a hospital in nearby Cotabato City, Rico said.

Cotabato City, Philippines - A pro-government militiaman was killed and four more wounded in an attack by Muslim secessionist rebels in the southern Philippines, a military report said Monday.

The report said the fighting erupted Saturday when about 30 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels attacked an army outpost in Maguindanao province, 960 kilometres south of Manila.

The rebels also suffered an undermined number of casualties, the report said.
