China says West should continue its 'key role' on climate change

Washington, Sept.22 : China has said that developed countries should continue to take the lead in reducing emissions in the post Kyoto Protocol period.

China's newly appointed special representative for climate change, Yui Qingtai, has said that the current international mechanism for tackling global warming after 2012 should define the obligations of developed countries.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the UN-sponsored Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012, are key guiding instruments for addressing global warming.

Guangzhou Confirms New Bird Flu Outburst; To Cull 10,000 Infected Fowls

Guangzhou: Chinese experts have confirmed an epidemic of H5N1 avian influenza in domestic fowls in the southern province of Guangzhou. For this reason, Guangzhou has planned to cull another 10,000 domestic fowls against the bird flu outburst.

China confirms bird flu outbreak in Guangzhou

New Delhi, Sept. 18: The Ministry of Agriculture in China has confirmed a bird flu outbreak in South China's Guangzhou, which began with the mass deaths of ducks on September 5.

The National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory, according to the ministry, confirmed the outbreak as a sub-type of H5N1 bird flu.

It said 36,130 ducks had been culled as of September 17, after farmers in Sixian Village and Xinzao Township in the Panyu district of Guangzhou reported the deaths of their ducks on September 5.

China has over 600 million mobile phone users

China had over 600 million mobile phone users by June this year, which means every one in five mobile phone users in the world is a Chinese.

According to Xie Feibo, vice director of the Radio Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Information Industry, the number included 80 million personal handy phone (PHS) users.
