BJP drops 18 of sitting MLAs

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of Chhattisgarh has shown door to 18 of its 51 sitting MLAs. They were dropped from first list of candidates for coming assembly poll scheduled to be haled on next month.  A total of 58 names got a place in the list.  

Chief Minister Raman Singh has been shifted from Dungargaon to Rajnandgaon constituency. He is representing Dungargaon assembly segment in the present assembly. .

After releasing the lists party General Secretary Ananth Kumar said "We have decided not to field 18 of the sitting MLAs in Chhattisgarh. This decision has been taken as per the political and social realities. Out of this, three MLAs have lost their seats due to the delimitation process,"

Shamshad Begum of Chhattisgarh empowering women

Durg (Chhattisgarh), Oct. 21 : A woman in Durg has transformed the lives of hundreds of women around her with personal intelligence and a strong determination to serve and uplift the society through women empowerment.

Shamshad Begum felt inspired for such a mission after being associated for five years with the government’s literacy campaign, started in 1990. She worked as the President of one of the small groups operating in Gundardehi Village.

But later, Begum decided to devote herself for uplift of women in society for the rest of her life.

Chattisgarh naxal attack leaves seven CRPF personnel dead

CRPF Raipur, Oct 20 : Naxalites allegedly killed at least seven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on Monday.

The attack took place at around 1.30 P. M. between Modukpal and Kongupalli in the district.

According to reports, one of the attackers was also killed in the exchange of fire that followed.

The ultras allegedly fired upon the personnel belonging to the 170 Battalion of CRPF, who were on a road opening duty.

The troops have been deployed in the area to provide security to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel.

Nominations for Chattisgarh assembly polls begins today

Raigarh, Oct 20 : The filing of nominations for the first phase of Chattisgarh assembly polls on November 14 began today in the state, for elections to 39 seats out of a total of 90.

Suspected Maoist rebels kill seven police in central India

ChhattisgarhNew Delhi - At least seven police officers were killed Monday in an ambush by suspected Maoist rebels in India's central state of Chhattisgarh, a news report said.

One of the militants was also killed in the shootout, which took place in the Bijapur district, about 550 kilometres south of the state capital, Raipur, officials told the PTI news agency.

The police belonged to a battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and most of the victims died on the scene.

Centuries old teak trees on the verge of decay in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh), Oct. 3: A cluster of four gigantic Sagwan (teak) trees, believed to be over two centuries old may soon decay despite being located in Ecotone region of teak and protected by the Forest Department.

These trees hold high significance for the local tribes in Machkot jungles in Chhattisgarh who worship them as an index of good omen.

One of these Sagwan trees, fondly named Bharat is slowly dying despite monitoring. The other three trees in this historical cluster have been named after Lord Rama, Laxmana, and Shatrugana, the mythological characters of Ramayana, the Hindu epic.
