Damascus bombing was carried by Iraqi suicide bomber Beirut  - The Damascus car bombing that killed 17 civilians Saturday was carried out by an Iraqi suicide bomber with the al-Qaeda terrorist network, a Lebanese news website said.

The Now Lebanon website quoting well-informed Syrian sources said that the bomber had recently entered Syria and had been in communication with al-Qaeda members in the capital.

The sources confirmed earlier speculation that the attack was targeting a security installation located on a road leading to Damascus airport.

Lebanon's leaders agree to remove political slogans from capital

Lebanon, BeirutBeirut- Lebanon's Shiite House Speaker Nabih Berri and head of the ruling anti-Syrian majority Saad Hariri agreed on Thursday to remove all political insignia, starting with a three-day campaign throughout Beirut.

"All pictures representing rival political leaders and slogans will be removed from the Beirut streets in the coming three days," sources close to Hariri told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

Hariri said after a meeting with Berri that "all efforts were under way to implement peace and security in the capital."

Hezbollah delegation meets Saad Hariri in Lebanon Beirut  - A delegation from the pro-Syrian Hezbollah movement met Wednesday with anti-Syrian majority leader Saad Hariri at the latter's residence in an effort to end a four-month feud that almost plunged the country into a civil war.

"It was not a meeting of reconciliation - it was a meeting of frankness," Hezbollah MP Mohammed Raad told reporters at Hariri's Koraitem mansion.

"We emphasize our commitment to what we agreed in Doha," Raad said, in reference to the accord reached at the Qatari capital more than three months ago.

Refugee camp blast kills one, wounds 4 in south Lebanon

Lebanon, BeirutBeirut - An explosion Tuesday ripped through the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el Hilweh in southern Lebanon, killing one person and wounding foru others, Palestinian sources said.

The sources inside the camp said Ahmad Qassem was killed and four others were injured in an explosion near the camp's al-Nour Mosque, which is controlled by Islamists.

Shortly after the explosion, the sound of machinegun fire was heard across the camp.
