Thai protestors decide to leave Government House, stay at airports

Thailand MapBangkok - Anti-government protestors decided Monday to end their three-month occupation of the prime minister's office, but remained in place at Bangkok's two airports which they have shut down for almost a week.

People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Chamlomg Srimuang urged supporters still at Government House to move out and join others at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport.

The PAD occupied Government House since August 26, depriving the prime minister and cabinet of their offices.

Thai protesters allow some flightsBANGKOK, Dec. 1  -- Anti-government protesters Monday let several planes fly out of Bangkok's international airport with thousands of passengers who had been stranded in Thailand.

The People's Alliance for Democracy-led protesters, who have been occupying the Suvarnabhumi international airport, allowed Thai Airways jetliners and those of other airlines to pick up the stranded passengers, the Thai News Agency reported.

CNN, quoting an airport authority spokesman, reported more than three dozen planes were on this mission to help about 100,000 passengers reach their homes.

"I believe we can send all the passengers home within seven to 10 days," Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kohsurat said.

More than 40 Thai protestors wounded in grenade attack Bangkok  - A grenade attack early Sunday on protestors who have occupied Government House, the seat of the administration, wounded 46 people, with at least two listed in critical condition, media reports said.

The explosion occurred shortly after midnight as members of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) gathered around a stage to listen to speeches, The Nation online news service reported.

Thai opposition leader urges supporters to secure Government House, airport

ThailandBangkok, Nov 29 : People''s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) party leader Sondhi Limthongkul on Saturday said that he would ''fight to the death'' to defend ASTV, and urged his supporters to do their best to secure the Government House and the Suvarnabhumi airport.

The PAD leader added that his party members are ready to defend ASTV and would die to protect the country.

Sondhi was reacting to Metropolitan Police chief Suchart Muankaew''s announcement that the police would seize ASTV.

“The PAD''s anti-government movements were under the Constitution,” the Bangkok Post quoted Sondhi, as saying.

Bangkok airport siege leaves 1,00,000 foreign tourists stranded

ThailandBangkok , Nov 29 : The closure of Suvarnabhumi airport in Thailand has left almost 1,00,000 foreign tourists stranded and the number is likely to double or triple if the situation is prolonged.

Meanwhile, U-tapao airport has been used as a gateway for sending foreign visitors back home.
