District governor, four Afghan police killed in roadside attacks

AfghanistanKabul- An Afghan district governor and four Afghan police forces were killed in two separate roadside attacks in southern and eastern Afghanistan, officials said Saturday.

In the latest attack, Zaman Sabari, the district governor for Nadershah Kot district of south-eastern province of Khost was killed when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb on Saturday, Wazir Pacha, spokesman for the provincial police chief said.

Military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan prove ‘costly’ for UK

Last year, the military mission in Afghanistan cost Britain 1.5 billion pounds, which has risen to 2.6 billion pounds this year.

In a bid to ensure more protection to its army personnel from advanced explosive devices and suicide bombers, Britain deployed many armoured vehicles. This was the main reason for the cost amplification.

Afghan gets life for honour killing of sister in Germany

Hamburg - In a case alleged by prosecutors to have been an "honour killing," an Afghan-born man was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for stabbing to death his own sister.

Morsal O, aged 16, was knifed to death on May 15, 2008, a day after she approached welfare officials in the northern German city Hamburg for protection from her brother, Ahmad-Sobair O, now 24.

He had objected to the pretty schoolgirl wearing fancy clothes and staying out all night.

He was convicted Friday of murder.

The case gained Germany-wide attention, amid a controversy over whether Muslim immigrants are more violent than native Germans.
