Railways' Posts 14.49% Increase In EarningIndian Railways reported 14.49 per cent increase in earning for the period of April-November2008. It stood at Rs44,485 in the same period of last year and currently stands at Rs50,932 crore. Now, Union Railways Minister, Lalu Parsad Yadav has reason to cheer as he can take credit to bring the Indian Railways out of the red due to his efficient management. Indian Railways maintains a long history of losses.

Railways posted the total goods earnings of Rs34,394 crore during April-November 2008 as compared to Rs29,734 crore during April-November 2007. The total passenger revenue earnings also reported profit with an increase of 12.21 per cent.

Revenue earnings from other activities also increased to Rs1,298 crore during April-November 2008 against Rs1,216 crore, showing an increase of 6.72 per cent. Its sundry earning increased to Rs800 crore during April-November 2008 with an increase of 20.17 per cent as compared to same period last year.

The total approximate number of passengers traveling by railway has shown increase of 6.47 per cent. It booked 4,717 million passengers during April-November 2008 against 4,431 million during the same period last year.
