Railway Minister releases report on modernization
India Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi has released a new report detailing the modernisation of the Indian Railways on Monday.
The new contains several improvements from the recommendations made in the West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee's ‘Vision 2020', according to Trivedi. The report authored by Sam Pitroda and recommends improving safety and modernizing the rail system in the country.
Mr. Trivedi had earlier maintained at the ‘Vision 2020' document and the Anil Kakodkar report on safety issues were similar. Mr. Trivedi said both the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee were working to achieve the targets of modernizing the Indian railways.
“The Prime Minister has inspired me as the captain of this reform. I'm grateful to the PM for inspiring me. The PM is no magician to wield a magic wand. The FM is on board,” he said.
The Indian railways is planning is raise about Rs. 1,00,000 crore in the next five months to fund introduction of new coaches, up-gradation of the signal systems and for eliminating level crossings A high level committee headed by Dr Anil Kakodkar, which was formed in September previous year, has recommended introducing new coaches, improving signals and eliminating signal crossings to improve the safety.
